THE ROLE

We are looking for a motivated and numerate individual to join British Land's property accounting team of c.20 people. Your responsibilities will include overseeing highly desirable properties and reporting directly to our property management financial controller. The ability to work effectively with various stakeholders across the business, including the site team, surveyors and wider finance team is key to the role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Day to day property accounting
  • Manage all financial matters affecting the properties.
  • Produce month end management accounts, including VAT, bank and control account reconciliations.
  • Ensure all balances are understood monthly, specifically the rent, service charge and direct recovery funds.
  • Manage cashflow for each property to ensure suppliers can be paid.
  • Conduct service charge compliance reviews.
  • Raise income demands in accordance with internal timetables.
  • Actively seek improvements to the procedures within the department.
  • Resolve or escalate issues on a timely basis.
  • Provide ad hoc reports and assist with setting up new sites as required.
  • Work with the property accounting team and wider finance team to achieve departmental targets and deadlines.
  • Liaise with the accounts payable team and the property accountant's team to resolve any outstanding service charge void invoices.

Supporting the surveying and site teams

  • Produce the year end accounts and manage the service charge review process to ensure service charge packs are issued on time.
  • Support the site teams and surveyors by providing financial guidance, including quarterly service charge reviews, mid-year forecasts and ad-hoc queries.
  • Provide financial support to new initiatives and commercial projects.
  • Assist with the production of the annual service charge budgets in accordance with RICS guidelines.
  • Assist with any occupier queries.
  • Support with ad-hoc reports as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • Property accounting experience, including RICS service charge.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with accountants and non-accountants.
  • Comfortable taking on responsibility while being effective in collaborative work.
  • Quick learner with a process improvement mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent IT skills - Excel and Word, and ideally Qube or similar.
