Ready to launch your career in venture investment and shape the future of science? Why you will love this role: Imagine yourself at the forefront of innovation, working alongside academics and entrepreneurs to bring cutting-edge research to life. You'll gain invaluable experience in all aspects of the investment process, from sourcing deals and conducting initial assessments to supporting due diligence and contributing to investment papers. This is a chance to build a strong foundation in venture capital within a supportive and collaborative environment, with ample opportunity to learn and grow. You will be encouraged to develop your skills, expand your network, and contribute to a world-class team that is passionate about fostering positive change.

In this role, you'll play a vital part in identifying and developing groundbreaking technology companies emerging from the University of Cambridge's School of Biological Sciences and School of Clinical Medicine. One of the key ways you’ll do this is by working from the Addenbrookes campus on a regular basis, and by attending Cambridge-based networking events (these are often held in the evening). If you're passionate about the intersection of science and business and want to make a tangible impact, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What we’re looking for:

  • A strong technical background with a degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field).
  • Experience in technology commercialisation, whether through work, an internship, or work experience.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to assess complex information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn from others.
  • A commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
  • Demonstrable drive and an ability to deliver.

Nice to have:

  • Some experience in a commercial or research environment.
  • Understanding of licensing IP or spinning out new ventures.
  • Familiarity with financial concepts and analysis.
  • An understanding of the university research and innovation ecosystem.
  • A master’s or PhD degree in a relevant scientific or business-related field.
  • Experience of working in a team to assess investment opportunities.

Diversity and equality matter: These are our ideal requirements, but we know some people are less likely to apply for the role unless they check every single box. At Cambridge Enterprise, we promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture, so if you feel you have most of the skills and experience needed, we’d love to hear from you. If you have any questions about the interview process, or if you need any reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to contact Ian, Michelle or Sofia.
