Oxfordshire IT Company is looking for a dynamic network manager to join its team in Bolton.

Successful candidates will be exceptional communicators who excel at working within a team and also when working with end users. Successful candidates must undergo an enhanced DBS Check

The role is to help support the trust’s educational ICT system. This will include providing a proactive support service as well as diagnosis and fixing of various day-to-day ICT System issues including server management, device/printer problems, projector/whiteboard problems, adding users, re-building PC’s etc. You will work alongside the central support team dealing with technical escalations for all sites.

You will manage the Network in its entirety, prioritising issues that affect Teaching and Learning. You will be able to speak clearly to non-technical users and be able to communicate clearly and regularly with Senior Management, who you will also provide regular reports to.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance of the school IT infrastructure e.g., network patching, resolving cabling issues, updating edge switch configuration, analysing network issues, patching servers, updating firewall configuration, configuring, and testing backup and recovery systems

  • Providing guidance to all colleagues on technical issues where required.

  • Monitor the school network and firewall logs for issues and cyber security threats.

  • Responsible for cybersecurity of the school infrastructure.

  • Ability to troubleshoot network, systems, and software issues from analysis through to resolution.

  • To diagnose and explain technical solutions to staff and students in a positive way, thereby ensuring a high level of user experience

  • Second & third-line IT support to pupils and staff, but also where required, providing first-line support.

  • Covering sites in the event of staff sickness & holiday or where required

  • Dealing with tickets escalated through the service desk from on-site engineers

  • Assisting with the development of the network working alongside the Development Manager

  • Line manage existing technician.

Technical competencies we are looking for (not everything below is essential, however the more that can be demonstrated the better):

  • Proven experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Server (2016-2022)

  • Installation and configuration of Windows Server roles and services (DHCP, DNS, DFS, RDS)

  • Experience of Office 365 deployments, migrations, and management

  • Virtualisation – Good understanding of virtualization with good experience with installing and managing Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware

  • Excellent experience of PC deployment, particularly the use of the SCCM, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and WDS to build and deploy images

  • AD – installation, configuration, and management of Local and Azure Active Directory and Group Policy

  • High level knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, especially Windows 10 & 11

  • Networking – Ability to configure a wide range of networking hardware. Experience with HP/Aruba Provision switches is advantageous

  • Experience of subnetting, VLAN design and implementation is preferable.

  • Knowledge of backup solutions and the ability to implement VEEAM, Redstor and NAS devices

  • Experience with web-filtering & firewall solutions is an advantage, especially Smoothwall & WatchGuard

  • Knowledge of the Sophos suite, especially anti-virus

  • Experienced in the management and implementation of managed wireless solutions, especially Aruba, with the ability to configure Guest networks and 802.1x security, * Positive outlook and attitude when dealing with end users – even in busy situations.

  • Previous experience working in the education sector is beneficial.
