Job Overview

We are looking to appoint a Solicitor or Fellow of CILEX to join the Legal Services team in Burnley.

Responsibilities

As a lawyer within the Litigation and Regulation team, you will manage a varied and interesting caseload of both criminal and civil regulatory matters. This will include:

  • Giving advice to the Council on licensing, planning, environmental health, and housing.
  • Representing the Council in the Magistrates’ Court and County Court.
  • Providing advice to elected members in committee.

Qualifications

You will have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience of working in a legal environment in a fee-earning capacity.
  • Advocacy experience in the Magistrates’ Court.
  • Experience in three of the following areas of law: civil litigation, criminal law, licensing, highways, planning, information law, and housing.

Skills

You will possess excellent communication skills and:

  • Have the ability to draft legal proceedings and statutory notices.
  • Manage a range of complex and competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Be an effective team member who can work without supervision.
  • Manage a diverse workload.
