Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.Â

You’ll need to be 2 years out from graduation and can be studying any degree discipline.
Beyond that, you’ll need to be curious to understand how a global bank adapts in a constantly evolving environment.
Whilst this programme is aimed primarily at Women seeking an opportunity in Technology we welcome applications from all eligible students (those graduating in 2027)
We are recruiting on a rolling basis, so we recommend that students apply early.
Barclays does not provide sponsorship for the 2-day insight programme, and Barclays will also require applicants for this position to have legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the 2026 Summer Internship Programme.
Working in Knutsford
Whilst our Discovery Programme is virtual, if successful in securing a place on our 2026 internship programme, you’ll be based in Knutsford.
Set in a stunning 64-acre site, Barclays Radbroke campus in Knutsford, Cheshire, is a tech hub like no other. The campus has tennis courts, gardens and even bee hives, as well as the latest in technology systems, equipment, and development.

Whilst our campus facilities will make you want to come to the office to work every day, flexible working is celebrated and we are currently operating in a hybrid working environment; many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. And when you do come into the office to work, we offer a free coach service from both Knutsford and Northwich station multiple times a day if you’d prefer to travel by train.
