An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced media lawyer to join a leading global media company.
This position offers the chance to be part of a dynamic and fast-paced team within the commercial distribution division of a major international entertainment group.
About the Role
This role will involve working closely with the Global Content team to acquire scripted and non-scripted content and formats from a growing portfolio of production companies, both in-house and third-party. The successful candidate will negotiate acquisitions, co-productions, and financing deals while providing expert legal and business affairs advice to internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading negotiations for content acquisitions, co-productions, and financing agreements.
- Drafting and negotiating acquisition agreements, production agreements, and key talent contracts.
- Advising on intellectual property rights and content licensing across multiple platforms, including traditional broadcasters, streaming services, and digital channels.
- Working closely with finance and royalties teams to ensure timely distribution of payments.
- Providing strategic advice to internal teams on risk management, compliance, and corporate governance.
- Contributing to the development of junior team members and fostering a collaborative team culture.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
- A qualified lawyer with c.5+ years PQE (exceptions may be made for candidates with exceptional experience and aptitude).
- Significant experience in media law, with a strong understanding of content acquisition, production, and distribution agreements.
- Expertise in intellectual property law and licensing within the media industry.
- Proven ability to conduct complex negotiations and draft contracts that reflect key business objectives.
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative deal structures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the UK broadcasting and media industry (US experience is a plus but not required).
