Responsible to: Building Operations Manager

Contract: Permanent

Location: The Old Vic, 103 The Cut, London, SE1 8NB

Hours: Part-Time, 32 hours per week, Working on a shift pattern to be determined but within the hours of 08.00-22.00 between Monday-Sunday. Additional hours may be necessary in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.

Salary: Β£28,808 pro rata per annum

Role Summary: The Theatre Operations Team are collectively responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the building day-to-day. The Building Operations Technician will provide practical support in maintaining and upkeep of the historic Grade II listed building. They will act as a first point of contact for any on the ground issues or queries related to the building and maintenance.

Person Specification:

  • Essential
  • Experience in a similar maintenance or technician role, preferably within facilities or building operations.
  • Basic understanding of UK building regulations and health and safety requirements.
  • Technical qualifications or certifications are a plus, such as: City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in plumbing, electrical systems, or building services.
  • Previous experience of working within a public-facing premises.
  • Comfortable working as part of a small team collaboratively, and working autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrable experience of completing building maintenance tasks.
  • Good understanding of the safe and effective use of power and hand tools.
  • Able to multi-task, work to deadlines, identify priorities and prioritise work with competing demands.
  • A β€˜can do’ approach and positive relationship building skills across departments.
  • Able to use initiative and find pragmatic solutions.
  • Demonstrable continuous improvement approach to work.
  • IT literacy, with good experience of the Microsoft Office suite. (Training will be given on software programs as required.)
  • Awareness of environmental sustainability.
