In line with the Company’s current Agile Working Policy, the successful candidate would be eligible to work part of the week from our Gatwick and London offices, and to work remotely for the rest of the week.

Position: Full time – Permanent (35hr per week)

Location: Gatwick and London / Hybrid

50 Best is seeking a skilled journalist with excellent writing and editing skills to join its growing in-house editorial and production team. The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills, along with a passion for food, drink and travel, with knowledge of the hospitality industry. Language skills – particularly Spanish and Portuguese – are a major advantage.

Key objectives will include:

  • Commissioning, writing and editing articles about some of the best food, drink and travel in the world
  • Liaison with 50 Best stakeholders and managing campaigns, including developing content and talent for 50 Best’s live events such as #50BestTalks and 50 Best Signature Sessions

Working within the editorial team, the Deputy Content Editor role provides an ideal opportunity for an established journalist and editor to work on this highly successful and influential brand in a vibrant and exciting industry.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Commissioning, pitching and writing articles and profiles about the world’s best restaurants, bars and hotels
  • Editing content for the 50 Best website and social media channels
  • Managing the ideation and production of select 50 Best content campaigns, spanning written, photo and video content
  • Overseeing content and talent for 50 Best live events, including #50BestTalks and 50 Best Signature Sessions
  • Briefing, commissioning and managing freelance journalists
  • Liaising with key internal and external stakeholders and talent including chefs, bartenders, restaurateurs and hoteliers
  • Supporting on the overarching strategy linked to our global awards event programmes in liaison with relevant Senior Content Editor/Head of Content
  • Actively participating in 50 Best global events from content ideation to assisting onsite
  • Uploading content to the CMS for the 50 Best websites

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior journalist or writer position with commissioning and editing responsibilities
  • Qualification in journalism or degree-level education in English, communications or a relevant field (or equivalent)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proactive approach to engaging with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • A positive self-starter with a strong commitment to teamwork, collaboration and generating innovative ideas
  • Strong research skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of the hospitality industry and a love of food, drink and travel
  • Knowledge and experience of CMS and digital content creation
  • Willingness to travel internationally to our events
  • Ability to speak additional languages, particularly Spanish or Portuguese, is a major advantage
