South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue is seeking applications for the role of Learning & Development Officer to join our expanding Learning and Development Team. We have a number of roles on offer as above.

Our Learning & Development Officers deliver effective training and support to internal staff in the areas of staff development, assessment, quality assurance, centre management activities and are required to deliver a range of other non-operational training input within the organisation. We are seeking individuals with a background or specific interest in learning and development and ideally experience in working as part of a qualifications centre.

Successful applicants will have assisted in the development and delivery of training frameworks and have delivered effective face to face and digital training solutions. Part of the role will be the design and implementation of new development programmes and the monitoring and development support of apprentices within the organisation.

To enable you to carry out this role, you will have an Award in Education & Training (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards this. CIPD Associate membership and Qualified Assessor accreditation are both desirable.

The role will be agile. You will be based at one of SYFR's facilities or stations and will be required to attend other SYFR sites and stations as well as home working.

The roles offer the opportunity to join a friendly and expanding team with home life balance at the forefront of our Flexi Time, Flexible Working and Agile Working Policies. Employees have the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (which includes employer contributions), have access to a range of in house and app based personal and financial support via our Health and Wellbeing initiatives and Occupational Health department, and offers personal and professional learning and development support and a range of organisational benefits, discounts and memberships available as part of the service or wider fire sector.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Most of our corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.

All eligible corporate staff are auto-enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme. Further information on the scheme, and additional benefits, can be found on the LGPS website.

Other benefits include (but not limited to) enhanced sick pay, access to free on-site gyms, a cycle 2 work scheme, access to emergency services discounts across a wide variety of popular companies, enhanced maternity and paternity schemes and the opportunity to join the TransaveUK credit union.

Closing date for applications is 08:00 hours on Wednesday 16 April 2025.
