Position: Downstream Risk Engineer – Insurance Sector

We are partnering with leading global insurance companies, rapidly expanding due to business growth. We are seeking a Downstream Risk Engineer to join their team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with clients in the Oil & Gas sector, particularly in downstream refinery operations. You will be involved in surveying assets, producing risk assessments, loss estimates, and conducting benchmarking exercises. The position also provides an opportunity to engage with senior client staff across Risk Management, Operations, and Engineering functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, conducting surveys of their oil & gas refinery assets, and working with various facilities to assess risks.
- Risk Assessments & Loss Estimation: Produce comprehensive risk assessments and loss estimates for refinery assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Training & Benchmarking: Conduct training sessions and benchmarking exercises, enhancing client understanding of risk management and mitigation techniques.
- Collaboration with Senior Staff: Work closely with senior staff in Risk Management, Operations, and Engineering departments to ensure effective communication and alignment on risk-related matters.
- Report Writing & Communication: Prepare detailed reports and communicate risk-related findings clearly to clients, ensuring all stakeholders are informed at all organisational levels.
Special Skills:
- Industry Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the Oil & Gas industry, including refinery technologies, project execution methods, and risk assessment processes.
- Risk Assessment Experience: Experience in risk-driven decision-making within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or refinery sectors is essential.
- Exposure to Related Industries: Experience in related sectors, such as petrochemicals or chemical manufacturing, is a significant advantage.
- Technical Software Proficiency: Familiarity with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and technical simulation packages for process modelling and risk assessments is highly beneficial.
- Strong Communication: Enhanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with clients and team members across all organisational levels.
Required Work Experience:
- Industry Experience: 4-15 years of experience in Operations, Maintenance, or Technical Functions within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical sectors.
Academic Background:
- Educational Qualifications: A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred but not essential).
