We are seeking an experienced General Foreman to lead and manage site operations on civil engineering and construction projects. You will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day activities on site, ensuring work is completed on time, to a high standard, and in compliance with health and safety regulations. As a key leader, you will supervise teams of workers, manage subcontractors, and ensure smooth communication across all levels of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations on-site, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Supervise, motivate, and lead a team of workers, including subcontractors and labourers, ensuring tasks are carried out to high standards.
- Manage the allocation of resources, ensuring that materials, equipment, and workforce are available when required.
- Ensure that construction activities are in compliance with project plans, specifications, and local regulations.
- Monitor work progress and report regularly to the Site Manager or Project Manager on site status, challenges, and resource needs.
- Address and resolve any site issues that arise, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies on-site, ensuring that all workers are following safety procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Promote a safety-first culture, addressing potential hazards and implementing corrective actions immediately.
- Ensure that risk assessments and method statements are in place for all tasks and activities.
Quality Control and Reporting:
- Monitor the quality of work carried out by site teams and subcontractors to ensure it meets project specifications and industry standards.
- Ensure that materials are used correctly and that waste is minimised.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including work completed, incidents, and other relevant data.
- Report on project progress, materials used, and any issues encountered to the Site Manager or Project Manager.
Coordination and Communication:
- Act as the main point of contact between the site team, subcontractors, and management, ensuring clear and effective communication at all levels.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services to the site.
- Coordinate and schedule site activities to ensure minimal disruption and effective use of resources.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:
- Identify potential challenges or delays on-site and take proactive steps to resolve issues before they impact project timelines.
- Make on-the-spot decisions related to work methods, material use, and workforce management to ensure continuous progress.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Foreman, Civils Foreperson, or in a similar supervisory role within the construction or civil engineering industry.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering and construction processes, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, and other general civil works.
- Good knowledge of health and safety regulations and the ability to enforce them on-site.
- Experience in managing teams, subcontractors, and day-to-day site operations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to resolving issues.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) and site management tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications in construction management, civil engineering, and water experience (e.g., NVQ Level 3, CPCS, SMSTS).
- SSSTS Gold/Black CSCS First Aid.
