Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Programme Manager to oversee and manage a team of Project Managers within our nuclear sector operations. This leadership role will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of large, complex programmes, ensuring that all projects are executed on time, within scope, and to the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. The Programme Manager will work closely with senior stakeholders, external contractors, and cross-functional teams to drive programme success, mitigate risks, and ensure that strategic objectives are met.

Your role in our mission:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of Project Managers, providing guidance, direction, and support in the planning and execution of projects in terms of scope, deliverables and client satisfaction.
  • Programme Planning & Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive programme strategies and plans, aligning them with the company’s broader goals and objectives. Ensure that all projects are integrated and delivered effectively.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with senior stakeholders and clients to provide updates, manage expectations, and ensure alignment on project goals. Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners and suppliers.
  • Risk Management: Identify and proactively manage project risks, ensuring that risk mitigation strategies are in place and effectively executed. Respond to issues promptly to minimise impact on project delivery.
  • Financial Oversight: Oversee all project budgets, ensuring cost control and adherence to financial targets. Approve project budgets and monitor expenditure to ensure they remain within budget.
  • Compliance, Governance & Quality Assurance: Support the Operational Manager to maintain all business standards, health and safety, and personnel issues within the team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare regular progress reports for senior management, highlighting key milestones, risks, issues, and project performance. Maintain clear and accurate programme documentation.
  • Change Management: Lead the change management process within the programme, ensuring that any adjustments to scope, schedule, or resources are managed effectively and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

Valued skills and experience:

  • PRINCE2 Practitioner - Essential
  • MSP - Foundation Level - Essential
  • Substantial project/programme management experience within a highly regulated environment is desirable.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of managing diverse project teams.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with senior stakeholders and external parties.
  • Ability to manage a group of project managers and drive them forward in executing projects in a timely manner, to budget and highlighting any risks to the wider audience.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage own time while keeping to project plan and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent teamwork using tested engagement models to ensure all relevant parties are updated on project progress regularly.
  • Effective communication across internal and external boundaries without exception ensuring clarity on scope, deliverables, activities and timescales.
  • Managing highlight reporting, ensuring all information is provided to the client as and when required.
