Metallurgist / Materials Engineer Peterborough £34 – £37 FCSA Umbrella (Inside IR35) A Materials Engineer has become available with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Machinery & bespoke systems . As a metallurgical / materials engineer within the business you will partner with and provide technical guidance to other teams. You will have an ability to gather relevant information, compare & contrast data, identify relationships, and predict and identify failures. Decisions may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers, and these decisions have significant impact on warranty, total cost of non-quality, customer perception, costs, sales, and the leveraging of technology. You will support manufacturing facilities UK/Europe wide being involved in investigating a wide range of different materials in multiple applications. Resolving issues regarding the design or manufacturing. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness. • Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement. • Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient, and cost-effective. • Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability.This position will be accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs in the Materials Engineering field, the candidate will be seen as a highly proficient engineer within their field. This Materials Engineer position performs complex analysis work, identifies and resolves problems. The major focus of the job is on technical delivery. Incumbents may work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers. This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly impact on: product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception. The role is expected to to initially be at least a 12 month contract position, but likely to become a long term, ongoing, rolling contract based in Peterborough, the role is deemed inside IR 35 FCSA Umbrella rate £34.00 to £37.00 (Doe) Paye also available (£22 – £26 ph). The successful Materials Engineer will need to demonstrate the ability to work independently in the field of Materials Engineering and will require expertise in a number of the following fields, the expertise will be required in both physical testing and technology expertise. Metallic Materials Processing – Heat Treatment. Casting, Forging etc Non Metallic Materials Processing – Injection moulding, Friction welding, Blow Forming, Elastomer Processing etc Failure analysis for Metallic and / or Non metallic materials Laboratory or Comparible industry experience Mechanical Testing Chemical Analysis Corrosion TestingSome Hybrid working will be available (Min 3 days pw expected on site though).
