A vacancy has arisen for the position of Biomedical Assistant in the busy Specimen Reception within Blood Sciences at University Hospitals of Leicester.

Providing support for the smooth running of the laboratory, your duties will include:

  • Receipt of Pathology samples prior to analysis

  • Inputting of data from patient request forms onto the system

  • Preparation of samples for analysis including sending away to other laboratories

  • The post will also involve a number of general housekeeping duties

  • An element of manual dexterity is also required

The pathology service operates on a 24/7 basis, and therefore shifts are arranged during these times, including weekends, evenings and nights., Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

  • To assist in the provision of laboratory services.

  • Pre-analytical duties include receipt, sorting and numbering of samples, data entry and specimen preparation.

  • Post-analytical duties include telephone results enquiries, filing, sample disposal, general laboratory housekeeping and dealing with referred work.

  • Has the ability to analyse routine information carefully and break down problems or situations into their component parts. Complete all paperwork accurately using correct grammar and spelling whilst paying particular attention to detail.

The successful applicant will be educated to GCSE level with previous experience involving a keen attention to detail.

Highly organised and conscientious, you have the ability to plan and organize your own work, and to adapt flexibly when circumstances change. A dedicated team member, you will bring a pleasant and helpful approach. In return for your commitment, you will receive all the training you need to carry out these duties.
