The Bromley by Bow Centre needs a Time Broker to establish a thriving Time Bank based at the Centre. The Time Bank will support local people to consider what they can do for others and what others can do for them, alongside encouraging more social activities in the community.

The main purpose of the role is to recruit, support and facilitate exchanges of help and support between Time Bank members; and to support the Time Bank Development Manager in ensuring that the Bromley by Bow Time Bank Project is delivered on time, within budget and to agreed targets and outcomes.

The Bromley by Bow Time Bank project will establish a thriving Time Bank in Bromley by Bow. With funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme, the Bromley by Bow Time Bank aims to reach 400 people in Tower Hamlets over 36 months. It will support local people to feel less isolated, increase their self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing, and improve relationships with people from different cultural/age groups in their community.

The Time Bank will support people to consider what they can do for others and what others can do for them, and enable reciprocal exchanges of help and support to occur in a safe way alongside encouraging more social and group activities in the community. Local people have told us they think the project “is a great idea” and “an excellent way to support people in the community” and offered to “help get it going”. Their involvement is vital to building a sustainable and active Time Bank in Bromley by Bow. The Time Bank will only thrive through local leadership and participation, and enabling people to come with their own ideas and make a contribution. A locally-led steering group will be key to developing the project’s activities and evaluating its progress.

The Time Bank will be delivered from the Bromley by Bow Centre and potentially local venues across Tower Hamlets and accommodate all genders, ethnicities, abilities and ages. We believe in creating opportunities which are accessible for all and which encourage full integration and participation. The Time Bank will also benefit from networking with local organisations and with other time banks e.g. through the London timebanking hub coordinated by Timebanking UK.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all members of the community. Confirmation of appointment would be dependant on a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check.

Closing Date : 26 January 2012
