By providing expertise in many different specialist areas of tax, they collaborate across the firm to deliver wider business solutions. From meeting clients’ evolving business needs to managing changes to legislation, there are always fresh challenges to face in the Tax team.

The firm’s specialist Innovation & Technology Group, a team within the London Corporate Tax department, comprises engineers, software developers and scientists as well as specialist finance professionals all of whom are experienced in claiming R&D tax relief. The team works in close collaboration with our client’s regional teams in the provision of the following services:
- Claiming R&D tax relief, R&D Tax Credits and RDEC.
- R&D Allowances (RDAs) – in collaboration with our specialist capital allowances team.
- Grants.
- Patent Box.
- International R&D relief.
Key responsibilities
- Leading and managing the preparation of technical and financial assessments for R&D tax relief claims.
- Identification of qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through participation in technical and financial discussions with existing and potential clients.
- Ensuring R&D claims meet the requirements of the relevant tax legislation and guidelines.
- Liaison with corporate tax staff to assist with the preparation of the relevant tax documents to submit R&D claims to HMRC.
- Project management of claims (i.e. continuously liaising with clients, colleagues and key contacts at HMRC to ensure claims are optimised and deadlines are met).
- First point of contact with the client.
- Supporting R&D tax relief claims in the event of HMRC R&D enquiries.
- Attending meetings, building and developing effective working relationships with colleagues, intermediaries and other networks to develop further opportunities and business over time.
- As a senior manager, you would also be expected to be a role model and mentor and line manage more junior members of the team, giving them regular feedback to help them develop.
- As a senior manager, you will be expected to contribute significantly in business development activities: attending meetings with potential clients and referrers, developing new products, drafting proposals for clients, increasing the firm’s brand and their business network and giving presentations.
- As a senior manager, you will be contributing to team wide issues and lead initiatives to help the team grow, improve efficiency and quality or promote the brand.
