Based in our client’s office, a stone’s throw from Borough Market in the heart of Southwark’s thriving Bankside, their welcoming and diverse team are working on some of the most prestigious and innovative projects in the UK.
We are looking for you to bring your passion and flair for bridge design, by taking an active role in helping build on design capability and to support multi-discipline bids and projects in both the public and private sector. Currently involved with several interesting and high-profile civil structures projects, with a strong secured future workload.
The role will involve bridge structural design and assessment capturing the technical quality and content prior to issuing to the client by supervising and assisting others in accordance with senior management requirements.
The role of the Principal Bridge Engineer will include but not limited to the following:
- Reporting to the Technical Director (TD) and provide support to the TD in project delivery, client relationship and business development for winning new work.
- Responsible for project delivery and undertake the role of technical lead on a range of bridge and civil structural related project.
- Lead and mentor teams on tasks such as structural analysis, feasibility studies, tender designs, detailed designs and the production of contract documents and technical reports.
- Work closely with other bridge teams to best use our resources and ensure efficient and successful delivery.
- Deliver quality inspections, technical designs and reports in line with National Standards and the client specific brief.
- Promote where applicable innovative solutions.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements.
Although we’re happy to consider applicants with more or less experience, you’ll ideally have qualifications, experience or skills in the following areas:
- Relevant degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or nearly Chartered Engineer (MICE or MIStructE) with considerable post professional experience (minimum four years’ UK experience) in bridge engineering.
- Proven working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) in relation to structural schemes and/or Network Rail design procedures.
- Ability to write sound technical reports.
- Ability to self-manage and support the team.
- Ability and awareness of relevant structural design software.
- Experienced in bridge assessment/design of materials including RC, Steel, masonry and timber.
- Temporary works experience preferred.
- Highway and Rail (Network Rail/TfL) experience preferred.
