With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing health challenges. The Deputy Director (AI) will support a growing portfolio of projects that span bioscience to medical device development, across PATH, and in partnership with our country offices (particularly in the Africa Division). They will have proven technical knowledge and practical experience in the design and/or application of AI-based tools in healthcare settings and understand the principles of product development. The Deputy Director (AI) will be expected to deputize for the Chief AI Officer. Thus, they will have proven experience in leading virtual and geographically diverse teams working on a complex portfolio of implementation projects in digital technology. They will be able to collaborate and partner closely with members of the global program leaders community on building and realizing a strong pipeline of funding for implementation opportunities, as well as ensuring quality execution of awarded work. In order to achieve this, they will draw on their own relationships with a number of donors in the AI space. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Support the Chief AI Officer in developing a strategic vision for PATH’s AI footprint. Partner with PATH’s shared services team to create the necessary assets to tell the story of PATH’s AI footprint. Consult across PATH’s country offices and programmes to ensure consistent and high-quality implementation of AI projects. Establish a set of internal operating procedures, including mechanisms to track AI projects across PATH to create a pipeline of collateral upon which to build PATH’s advocacy in the AI4HealthEquity space. Program Management Lead AI specific projects that are housed within the AI initiative or provide oversight for projects that sit in other divisions, but which are ultimately accountable to the Chief AI Officer. Provide guidance and insight to project directors as they oversee the preparation of regular reports for donors and stakeholders, detailing the progress and achievements of individual projects, as well as challenges and recommended solutions. Responsible for direct report onboarding, growth and feedback, compliance. Resource Mobilization and External Partnerships Serve as the primary point of contact, relationship manager, and strategic partner for donors and stakeholders central to the AI initiative. Develop a pipeline of opportunities for funded AI projects, in partnership with other parts of PATH as appropriate. Cultivate strong relationships with relevant senior technical and political decision makers across the priority countries for the PATH AI initiative. Serve as a thought-leader with ministries of health, regional and global bodies, donors, and key implementation partners across the sector to provide technical guidance/best practice on the use of AI in health. Budget & Risk Management Provide oversight for AI initiative budgets, working with the operations team, individual project leads, and regional directors to ensure adequate staff coverage.
