Our client, a major UK retail bank, provides everyday banking services to over 17 million retail customers. On behalf of this organisation, AMS is looking for a Risk and Controls Manager (Surveillance) for a 6-month contract based in Manchester (1 day per week on site).
Purpose of the Role: We are seeking an experienced Risk & Controls Manager with a strong background in surveillance, risk frameworks, and operational processes. This role will be pivotal in designing and embedding a new control framework, ensuring sustainable operational risk management, and leading a cultural transformation within the team.
Responsibilities of the Role:
- Design & Implement Risk Framework: Develop and embed a robust control framework aligned with new business requirements.
- Risk Issue Management: Oversee risk issues, risk acceptance, and event escalation, ensuring matters are dealt with in a timely manner.
- Review & Enhance Controls: Conduct a comprehensive review of existing risk and control mechanisms, ensuring alignment with the new framework.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive change and embed risk culture within the organisation.
- Run Risk Forums: Lead discussions, provide insights, and implement best practices for risk governance.
- Operational Process & Data Flow Oversight: Assess and refine operational processes to enhance efficiency and risk mitigation.
- Surveillance Risk Management: Understand risks within a surveillance department, design processes and controls to mitigate them, and monitor control effectiveness, adjusting as necessary.
What we require from the Candidate:
- Proven experience in risk and controls, with a focus on surveillance and operational risk management.
- Strong expertise in designing and overseeing risk control frameworks.
- Experience in running risk forums and effectively engaging with stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret risk data, provide insights, and drive strategic decision-making.

- Experience in financial services or a regulated environment preferred.
