Validus is looking for a software engineer to join our platform team. The platform team owns and maintains the core frameworks and tools used within the organisation, drives initiatives for establishing best practices, looks after our AWS infrastructure and ensures that we operate in a secure environment.
The platform team is part of the broader technology team working in collaboration with quants, frontend and backend engineers. Our teams work together to grow our technology platform, Horizon. Horizon comprises multiple applications for trade execution, portfolio management and risk analysis for alternative asset managers in various domains, such as private equity, private debt and real estate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and develop cloud-native services on AWS.
- Work with the Quant team to move heavy simulations to parallel compute.
- Lead the implementation and design of the next generation of the job scheduling framework used for long-running quantitative jobs.
- Integrate and maintain 3rd party providers into our platforms, such as Snyk, Lacework, and Datadog.
- Improve monitoring and observability across our stack, and set a standard for the team to follow.
- Dockerise services running natively on AWS EC2.
- Be the go-to person for AWS-related questions.
- Assist in writing and maintaining documentation and epics for Platform projects.
- Explore, analyse and propose multiple solutions to a problem/project.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with one or more modern programming languages. We mostly use Python, but we are keen to speak with strong engineers from any background.
- Experience with AWS is an asset, but not required. We use a wide range of services, but the ones we deal with the most are Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, API Gateway and Step Functions.
- Experience with databases. We use MySQL, MongoDB and DynamoDB, but experience with other database technologies would also be valuable.
- Experience or interest in workload orchestration tools such as Airflow, EMR, CloudComposer.
- Knowledge of architecture patterns. Experience working on event-driven microservices is a plus.
- Curiosity to explore new technologies. We are constantly looking for potential technologies to improve our platform.
- Strong communication skills in working with other teams and mentoring more junior developers.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience with financial risk management software or platforms.
- Knowledge of AWS computing platforms and services.
