Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is one of the very best colleges in the country. In October 2024 we became the first and only further education provider in England to achieve a full set of outstanding grades in consecutive Ofsted Inspections.

The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices where we work with over 850 individual employers.

Working as part of a team across both campuses, the main responsibility is to help maintain a friendly, safe, orderly and secure learning environment. You will be a point of contact for learners on issues relating to their security and behaviour in College, and will provide advice and guidance as appropriate. You will also present a friendly face to visitors and ensure that their first experience of the college is a positive one.

Specific duties include:

  • Regular patrolling of all areas of the College during which you will interact with learners, visitors and staff and respond to requests for assistance.
  • Challenging unacceptable behaviour where necessary.

You will have a good understanding and awareness of security related issues which may arise in a Further Education environment, ideally backed up with relevant practical experience including working with young people. You will be fit enough to remain active throughout the day while patrolling the buildings and grounds and also to support with receiving and delivering parcels.

Your excellent communication skills will enable you to converse clearly and courteously at all levels, along with the ability to gain the respect and trust of students as well as dealing with challenging behaviour in its many forms. You will be comfortable with using your initiative, dealing with a range of situations quickly and decisively.

A good standard of general education is desirable and, whilst possession of a qualification in security or customer care would be useful, the personal qualities outlined above along with your excellent inter-personal skills are the most important attributes.

The successful applicant will be expected to work across both the Newcastle and Stafford campuses, so flexibility will be required over working hours, as there is a requirement to work a shift pattern to fit in with the full college day up until 9pm. Some weekend working will also be required from time to time.

What's in it for you? The college offers an excellent benefits package which includes:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 24 days annual leave rising to 30 after 5 years (plus Bank Holiday and Christmas closure)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme (Salary sacrifice)
  • Excellent Training and Development Opportunities (supported with a dedicated budget)
  • Staff parking available
  • Health-related benefits including subsidised health scheme
  • On site restaurant facilities and FREE early morning coffee/tea and toast
