About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Veterinary Inspector (SVI) to join our team, providing essential veterinary operational services to safeguard animal health and welfare, protect public health, and enhance food security. This role is pivotal in disease investigation, regulatory compliance, and outbreak response.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disease Investigation & Welfare: Investigate notifiable animal diseases through on-farm and field investigations. Manage TB breakdown cases and conduct in-field post-mortem examinations. Collect and interpret data, prepare reports, and submit samples for laboratory testing. Perform euthanasia of animals when necessary, in line with policies and RCVS guidance.
- Inspection, Approval & Audit: Conduct physical examinations of animals, premises, and records to support certification and disease control. Perform import controls on animals and animal products, ensuring compliance with UK legislation. Undertake audits and liaise with Official Veterinarians, applying sanctions as required.
- Incident & Disease Outbreak Response: Participate in contingency planning and respond flexibly to disease outbreaks and incidents. Provide veterinary advice and make informed decisions during emergencies.
- Compliance & Enforcement: Use veterinary expertise to advise on and support interventions, including evidence collection and presentation. Appear as a witness of fact or expert witness if required.
- Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Champion high health and safety standards and undertake risk assessments. Support staff in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine (RCVS registration required).
- Minimum 1 year of veterinary experience.
- Experience with large animals is desirable.
- OCQ(V)-TT and OCQ(V)-SS certifications are advantageous but not essential.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and respond to emergencies.
- UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
