Nottingham City Council is looking to appoint three Assistant Coroners to support the Senior and Area Coroners in delivering a high-quality coroner service for the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

About the Role

In this role, you will handle complex inquests, including Article 2 and jury cases. You’ll collaborate closely with the Senior and Area Coroners to manage investigations and hearings while ensuring the needs of bereaved families are met. A minimum of 20 days per year is required, with flexibility to accommodate your professional commitments.

Who We’re Looking For

  • At least 5 years of experience as a barrister, solicitor, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, meeting the judicial-appointment eligibility condition.
  • Expertise in handling complex inquests.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to fairness and impartiality.
  • An understanding of coroner law and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations into deaths and lead inquests in accordance with the law.
  • Collaborate with coroners' officers, the police, and medical professionals.
  • Provide sensitive communication and support to bereaved families.
