Responsibilities

  • Work together with Mechanical Engineering and Design Sciences teams with:
  • Prototyping and fabrication of prototypes
  • Construction of test jigs and fixtures
  • Management of 3D printing machinery
  • Development and management of CAD models, assemblies and drawings
  • Design or support the design of various projects and prototypes (acoustic systems, automotive builds, electronic projects)

Employ competent use of judgment and design principles to enable prototype construction. Adhere to the project schedule and ensure timely completion from conception to implementation.

  • Sourcing of materials and maintenance of on-hand
  • Construction of unique machinery or equipment for unique processes or projects
  • Communicate schedule to stakeholders and others with dependent systems, bringing attention to changes in the schedule as they happen
  • Constantly evaluate how the system fits into the larger picture of a working operation.
  • Ensure that design choices are in line with the top level needs with ample consideration of future developments
  • Ensure all systems are compliant with appropriate regulations such as MSHA, OSHA, NEC, NFPA, Class 1 Division 2 Hazardous Location

Basic Qualifications

  • Should be pursuing university-level degree related to ME, EE, CSE, or other hardware-centric engineering or design curriculum.
  • Basic proficiency with CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • High familiarity with 3D printing

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Basic proficiency in CNC + 3D printer operation + maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of audio and loudspeaker systems
  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems/architectures
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and/or testing - can be in a professional, academic or recreational setting
  • Mechanical tools
  • Soldering
  • Table saw, router, mill, lathe, etc.
  • Experience in creating technical drawings
  • Previous internship experience is a plus
  • Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to effectively interact and collaborate with other engineering disciplines
  • Acute attention to detail.
