It is expected that some of the duties will change over time and this description will be subject to review in consultation with the post holder.This is a Medical Oncology post, applications from clinical oncologists will be considered. The focus of this Consultant Oncologist post is to provide comprehensive specialist outpatients services in Oncology for the management of adults diagnosed with lung, skin and unknown primary. These sites may be subject to negotiation. Oncology referrals are received from consultants within the hospital or a member of their team.The position is based in Jersey General Hospital.The post holder will work alongside Three FTE consultants in oncology. For newly appointed consultants a mentor will be allocated to support their induction to the post.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will deliver oncology services for Jersey residents including innovative ways of delivering integrated care across the primary and secondary care sectors.The post holder will partake in the provision of non-surgical treatment for patients with skin, lung, unknown primary & sarcoma cancers (the allocation of other tumour sites according to experience/interest could be considered).Clinical management of patients within an outpatient ambulatory setting including the chemotherapy day unit.Provide oncology support to the medical teams responsible for inpatients with diagnosis of cancer.Lead & attend relevant cancer MDTs.To liaise with tertiary centres for MDTs & the timely management and referral of relevant cases.Identify and repatriate patients and services to Jersey.Liaise and provide advice and guidance to primary care including cancer referral pathways.Participate in the development of the cancer strategy for the island of Jersey within the framework of the Health and Care Jersey Model.The post holder will play an active role in Acute Oncology Service (AOS) development, ensuring an efficient triage system for acutely unwell cancer patients. This includes a weekday consultant-led AOS sessions and supporting the specialist nurse-led AOS out-of-hours.
