Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join the Governance Directorate as Senior Policy Adviser. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable policy and political expertise, strong experience in legal processes and management coupled with the ability to support the substantive and administrative duties for senior directorate members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Manage the oversight and coordination of outputs, functions, and schedules for sectional, cross-sectional, and interdivisional projects and programmes.
  • Project Design Reviews: Conduct substantive reviews of Project Design Documents (PDDs) for the Directorate and provide recommendations for approval.
  • Research & Coordination: Conduct research and coordinate information from internal and external sources, contributing to papers, briefing documents, charts, tables, and presentations.
  • Staff & Administrative Oversight: Advise the Senior Directorate members on staff performance, administrative systems, and financial oversight to ensure the division meets its outputs, goals, and targets.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide timely briefing materials and strategic advice to the Senior Directorate members in preparation for meetings within the Secretariat and with external bodies.
  • Young Professionals & Work Experience Coordination: Oversee the rotation of Young Professionals and Work Experience candidates, ensuring they report to their designated Heads.
  • Follow-Up Actions: Facilitate follow-up actions, cooperation, and communication between divisions and sectional Heads to ensure efficient, relevant, and timely delivery of work.
  • Event Organisation: Organise, coordinate, and execute high-level events, such as Dialogues, Conversations, and Get-Togethers.
  • Sensitive Matters: Handle sensitive and confidential matters while liaising at all levels as directed.

Candidate Specification:

  • Degree in Law or Political Science.
  • Exemplary writing skills with in-depth analytical capacity. Impeccable English writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Policy Advisor.
  • Experienced professional with policy and political expertise.
  • Ability to carry out in-depth research.
  • High level, valuable, and relevant experience in a highly demanding environment.
  • Desirable: Evidence of publications in books or peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience within international markets.
  • Lateral thinker, initiative, and a love for innovation.
