I am working with a local authority client of mine in the Surrey region who are looking for an interim Service Accountant to join their team for 6 months. My client is looking for an experienced local government accountant who can provide quality financial advice to Head of Services and Budget Managers to support their decision making, financial planning, monitoring and reporting.

Job Duties:

  • Preparation of the final accounts, including producing working papers and liaison with the Council’s external auditors.
  • Preparation of revenue estimates.
  • Providing monthly revenue budget monitoring reports for budget managers.
  • Supporting the development of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy.
  • Providing financial advice, information and support to budget managers.
  • Reconciliations of control accounts.
  • Government returns and claims.

Personal Specification:

  • Full (or part) CCAB qualified.
  • Significant experience of working within a local government finance team.
  • Detailed knowledge of the CIPFA Code of Practice.
  • High standard of numeracy and accuracy.
  • Able to complete tasks within deadlines.
  • Excellent working knowledge of spreadsheets.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
