Job Description
Do you have a passion for supporting schools, families, children, and young people? We are seeking a School Attendance Liaison Practitioner to join the Team Around the School and Setting, part of the innovative Education Division of Children’s Services.
The successful applicant will support schools in improving attendance. Working alongside experienced staff, you will develop and deliver bespoke support packages. Your primary focus will be to work directly with schools, settings, children, and families to enhance attendance and outcomes for children and young people with additional needs. The role involves acting as a point of contact for parents to increase parental confidence, reduce anxiety, and promote successful inclusion in mainstream settings. It also involves ensuring effective communication between home and school, developing partnerships with outside agencies, and building positive relationships with families to address barriers to learning.
Education
We are looking for a skilled practitioner with a genuine interest in this area, experienced in working within educational settings to support attendance and engagement. You will have:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with children, families, and staff, and handle difficult situations.
- Ability to carry out person-centred, outcomes-based planning and demonstrate specific strategies confidently when working with individuals, groups, or cohorts.
- Experience working in a multi-agency context with competing priorities, and knowledge of the LA’s responsibilities around supporting children with SEND.
- Organisational skills to manage workload effectively and use initiative appropriately.
- Experience of direct work with children, parents, and families from diverse backgrounds, including those who have not previously accessed services.
