Hotel Café Royal, an iconic 5-star luxury hotel located near Piccadilly Circus, is seeking an Engineering Manager to oversee the daily operations of our engineering team. The hotel features 159 rooms and suites, a world-class spa with a swimming pool, and five restaurants and bars. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of all hotel facilities, maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and guest experience.

About The Role

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering and the Director of Engineering, you will manage a team of shift engineers, ensuring a proactive approach to maintenance, compliance, and energy efficiency. You will work five days per week, with flexibility required for weekends and bank holidays as per business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the engineering team, ensuring all maintenance tasks and projects are completed efficiently.
  • Manage and lead a team of shift engineers, providing direction, training, and support to ensure high standards of performance.
  • Ensure all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are operating effectively, addressing any technical issues proactively.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director and Director of Engineering on maintenance strategies, energy management, and long-term improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with health & safety regulations, fire safety, and statutory requirements, conducting regular inspections and audits.
  • Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance programs, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations and guest experiences.
  • Manage relationships with external contractors and suppliers, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality service delivery.
  • Assist in budgeting and cost control for engineering operations, optimizing resources while maintaining high standards.
  • Support refurbishment projects and upgrades, particularly in preserving the hotel's heritage as a Grade II listed building.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with other departments, ensuring engineering support enhances overall hotel operations.

About You

  • Previous experience in a similar Engineering Manager role within a luxury hotel or high-end property is essential.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing engineering teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems within a hotel or large commercial building.
  • Familiarity with working in Grade II listed buildings is highly advantageous.
  • Excellent understanding of health & safety regulations, fire safety, and compliance standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to work proactively and handle emergencies effectively.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and bank holidays, as per business needs.
  • Proficiency in using engineering management systems and reporting tools.
