The Blockchain & Climate Institute is seeking unpaid volunteer Video Producers based in Glasgow for a home-based role. The position involves creating engaging video content to support the BCI Communications Strategy, focusing on climate action. Candidates should possess creativity, storytelling skills, and proficiency in design software like Adobe After Effects.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the implementation of the BCI Communications strategy.
- Raising the profile of BCI among relevant audiences, both within and outside the climate change policy community.
- Conceptualizing video content based on storytelling requirements for various communications activities including public relations, social media, website, and newsletters.
- Creating motion graphics and animation videos based on the script and discussions with other responsible officers.
- Illustrating sketches for approval.
- Creating engaging and on-brand audio-visual content (e.g., video explainers, interview features) for a variety of media.
- Supporting BCI external and internal events including major industry events such as United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (i.e., COP29).
Skills & Abilities:
- A wide degree of creativity and a good grasp of storytelling.
- Proven understanding of communication channels (e.g., media outlets, social media).
- Demonstrated flexibility.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance competing demands under pressure.
General & Specialist Knowledge:
- Understanding of graphic design foundations e.g., typography, layout design, grids.
- Excellent working knowledge of industry-standard design software and tools including Adobe After Effects, Animate, Photoshop, and Toon Boom.
- Good experience working with Motion Graphics and Animations in a wide range of After Effects plugins, like Trapcode suite, Plexus, GeoLayers, and Element 3D.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and G Suite, and prior experience using communication channels such as Slack.
- Understanding of social media management tools.
Bonus:
- Experience working with Cinema 4D, Blender, Houdini, Premiere Pro.
Education & Training:
- A relevant degree or experience in video creation and editing.

- Proven relevant position in an organization.

- A portfolio of strong visual communications work.
- Experience working independently and with teams to drive forward projects using one's own initiative.
Before you apply: Candidates should include a work sample portfolio with great examples of work across motion, animation, and video projects. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by one of our recruiters to complete a short online exercise and attend virtual interviews with the responsible Heads of Divisions.
Selection Process: As a voluntary organization, we are pleased to open the door for candidates who may not have the prior experience they need to start, progress, or switch their careers. To recruit the most suitable, talented, or potential new members out of the volume of applications received, it is the BCI’s policy to also consider inexperienced candidates to fill our voluntary unpaid roles as long as they can demonstrate the skills required in the written assessment.
In the selection process, most candidates will be invited to complete the following assessment:
- Section A: Verbal and Numerical Reasoning (20 multiple-choice questions)
- Section B: Situation Judgement Test (20 multiple-choice questions)
- Section C: In-Tray Exercise (An open-ended assessment relevant to the duties of the role)
Candidates who pass all three sections will be invited to attend a phone screening, first interview, and final interview online.
