ASIC Design Engineer – AI Chip

All Levels

Cutting-edge fabless chip design start-up developing next-generation AI chips

Locations: Edinburgh, Bristol, Cambridge

This is a unique opportunity to join a UK start-up that has recently secured significant funding following several years of groundbreaking innovation by its co-founders.

This full-time, on-site role is suitable for ASIC Design Engineers at all levels. You will join a rapidly growing silicon design team working on a state-of-the-art AI ASIC. In this role, you will help define and implement the digital microarchitecture of a next-generation AI chip.

The position can be based in Cambridge, Bristol, or Edinburgh, and involves ownership of digital IC design, RTL development, and contributing to the full design lifecycle from concept to tape-out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement microarchitectures for high-performance AI ASIC cores, including processing engines, memory hierarchies, and interconnects.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, verification engineers, and software teams to define features, produce design documentation, and evaluate performance, power, and area trade-offs.
  • Contribute to system-level architecture exploration, behavioural modelling, and power, performance, and timing analysis to optimise accelerator efficiency.
  • Support chip integration and tape-out by working with backend teams on timing constraints and physical design considerations.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in digital IC design for NPUs, GPUs, or AI accelerators.
  • Strong proficiency in RTL coding (SystemVerilog/Verilog).
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital and low-power design techniques, memory interfaces, and standard protocols.
  • Scripting skills in Python or TCL.

As a start-up, you can expect an attractive compensation package, including shares, performance and company bonuses, and a competitive base salary. The environment will be fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding, offering the chance to play a key role in shaping the company’s culture and technical direction.

You must have the right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship cannot be supported at this time.
