About The Role:

We're looking for a Smoke Design Technician to join our team - whether you come from a background in mechanical design, HVAC, MEP, fire safety, or a related technical field, we'd love to hear from you. Prior experience in smoke control is not essential, but a keen interest in fire safety, mechanical ventilation, and attention to detail is.

This role is ideal for someone looking to apply their technical expertise in mechanical systems, building services, or fire safety to a specialist and rapidly growing field. You'll be given full training in smoke ventilation design and a clear pathway to becoming a Fire Engineer.

As part of our Technical Department, you'll work closely with Business Development Managers (BDMs), estimators, and project teams to develop innovative and compliant smoke control solutions.

If you have experience in mechanical engineering, building services, or fire safety - and want to specialise in an industry with high demand - this is your opportunity!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical ventilation and smoke control systems, ensuring compliance with UK building regulations.
  • Conduct fan selection, pressure drop calculations, and mechanical ductwork design.
  • Develop control logic tables (cause and effect) and review Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) reports.
  • Review and approve CAD drawings prepared by the design team.
  • Provide technical guidance on product selection and system requirements.

Estimation & Compliance:

  • Assist in preparing quotations and technical specifications.
  • Ensure all designs meet UK fire safety regulations and company quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve technical non-compliance issues.

Collaboration & Mentoring:

  • Work with installation teams to ensure designs are implemented correctly.
  • Maintain technical documentation and records for design and compliance.
  • Mentor junior team members on best practices in ventilation and fire safety design.

Project & Quality Control:

  • Support project teams in integrating new orders, ensuring technical accuracy.
  • Participate in internal technical discussions and problem-solving sessions.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Technical background in mechanical engineering, HVAC, MEP, fire safety, or similar fields.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen interest in fire safety and compliance.
  • Knowledge of building regulations and mechanical design principles (prior smoke control experience is a plus, but not required).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Ability to interpret technical reports, cause & effect tables, and engineering schematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

What We Offer:

  • Full Training & Career Progression - We'll help you become a specialist in smoke control, with structured development towards a Fire Engineer qualification.
  • Industry Expertise - Work alongside leading professionals in fire safety and smoke ventilation.
  • Supportive Culture - A collaborative team that values technical growth and problem-solving.
  • High-Growth Industry - Smoke control and fire safety are critical and expanding fields, offering strong career stability.
