Piccadilly Construction, our in-house Construction Management Team, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer/Assistant Buyer to assist with purchasing and procurement. This role requires supporting the Procurement Manager in buying activities related to our construction and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Negotiate optimal supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
  2. Develop long-term strategic relationships with suppliers to maximize economies of scale.
  3. Schedule and place material and plant orders, optimizing for cost and quality.
  4. Review Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with material specifications, resolving queries with relevant teams.
  5. Produce material cost schedules and budgets for new projects, monitoring costs to stay within budgets.
  6. Create schedules for material enquiries, obtain quotations, and assess supplier proposals.
  7. Report and project material cost increases.
  8. Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
  9. Conduct on-site checks of materials and produce reports.
  10. Visit sites regularly to ensure supply and material issues are addressed.
  11. Negotiate with suppliers and raise orders for various business needs, including property maintenance and marketing, where strategic procurement adds value.
  12. Maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, in-house teams, and consultants, to ensure successful project delivery.
  13. Perform other duties as required.

About You:

  • Understanding of procurement processes within the construction industry.
  • Experience in delivering effective buying functions in construction.
  • Knowledge of the materials supply chain.
  • Skills:
  • A proactive, positive, and commercially minded attitude with the ability to challenge conventional approaches.
  • Excellent financial and numerical skills, including budgeting and cash flow management.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workloads effectively.
  • Experience of at least 2 years in buying within a construction business.
