Company Description
Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed. Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their lives easier and save them money. As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money. For everyone, everywhere.
Job Description
The Banking and Expansion team are responsible for improving our payment system connections across the world to help our customers move money instantly, transparently and conveniently at as low a cost as possible. This is first achieved through bank and payment service provider (PSP) partnerships, and then eventually through direct connections with payment systems like UK Faster Payments (FPS) and central infrastructure like SWIFT. Note - This is not a sales role - for that, see our Business Development roles.
Your Mission:
- Help us grow, maintain and scale our bank partner and payment scheme relationships.
- As part of our regional product team, help define the opportunities and direction for our payment products in Europe.
- Collaborate across teams and inspire others so that we deliver the best payment products in the region.
- Create new opportunities by working closely with our existing banking payment service providers to ensure we continuously improve our product (increase speed, reduce costs, add more visibility to our transactions, etc.).
- Work with bank partners and payment systems to ensure Wise continues to meet ours and our partners regulatory obligations with respect to payments including completing due diligence questionnaires, keeping KYC information up to date and ensuring we meet our partners regulatory requirements.
- Understand and help our product teams understand the existing and planned payments infrastructure in Europe and how we should use and access it to provide the best cross-border payments services to our customers.
- Manage an end-to-end process: find the right potential banking and payment system partners, pitch Wise as a client, negotiate the commercial agreements and contracts, complete account opening forms, explain our compliance processes, pass due diligence, and do anything else needed to be ready for development.
- Coach our operational teams to ensure we can scale and automate our products to ensure a high degree of payment system automation.
Qualifications
- Can add commercial, regulatory and operational expertise to payment partnerships – with a focus on areas like SWIFT, SEPA payments and other European payment systems.
- Have excellent relationship management skills thinking through how to best leverage our existing global banking partners to ensure our product works optimally from a commercial, regulatory and technical point of view.
- Have experience in building transaction banking (payments) partnerships involving correspondent banking, either from a product management point of view or the operational side, and is therefore familiar with how payment systems work and the operational nuances that come with making SWIFT or domestic payments.
- Can innovate and build new payment solutions that have never existed before. You will need to come up with ideas where no process exists as well as convince people internally and externally that it can work.
- Are happy to go into technical or operational detail where needed – this could be reading banking contracts, understanding specific payment regulation or looking at payment data to optimise payment routing.
- Are not afraid to get their hands dirty to deliver what is needed – we’re a fast growing company and you will need an entrepreneurial mindset to thrive. You will need to be happy building complex partnerships one day whilst at the same time also balancing more basic day to day tasks such as form-filling and partner due diligence.
- Are familiar with how financial institutions and payment systems/central banks work and their decision makers. You’re excellent at managing those relationships and are constantly creating opportunities to improve them.
- You ideally have experience of payments product management or relationship management in a bank or similar organisation.
- Happy to work independently and flexibly within a fast-moving environment. You will need to be happy to travel to other European offices or to build better partner relationships when needed.
- Passionate about transforming the financial industry for good.
