Product Design Engineer required for a designer and manufacturer of luxury lighting for the factory in Halesowen. We are seeking an innovative and skilled Product Design Engineer with a strong background in the lighting industry. This role will focus on the engineering aspects of product development, collaborating with a creative design team to bring lighting concepts to life. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of SolidWorks, experience with 3D printing for prototyping and manufacturing, and expertise in engineering metal and other material components. The role requires a combination of technical proficiency and project management skills to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, manufacturable products.
Job Overview:
- Engineering development of lighting products from concept through to full production, collaborating with the creative design team to ensure technical feasibility and manufacturability.
- Utilize 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques to create models and prototypes, optimize designs for large-scale manufacturing, ensuring high precision and quality.
- Produce detailed CAD drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation using SolidWorks, ensuring all designs meet required tolerances and standards (BS-EN 60598).
- Apply strong knowledge of primarily metal materials and processes to design lighting components that are durable, functional, and aesthetically on brand.
- Oversee product development projects, ensuring milestones are met, timelines are adhered to, and products are delivered on time and within budget.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams: design, supply chain, production, and quality.
- Explore innovative solutions from other industries and apply them to lighting product engineering.
- Address engineering challenges with practical solutions, adapting designs based on feedback from testing and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with existing and new manufacturers alongside our supply chain team to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet high-quality standards, which will involve supplier visits both in the UK and abroad as and when required.
- Carry out and document environmental tests (CIBSE TM65/TM66) and ensure products comply with relevant standards and regulations.
- You may also be required to carry out any other duties as and when required.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in the lighting industry, with a focus on lighting design and product development.
- A degree in product design, product engineering or equivalent.
- Advanced technical skills in SolidWorks for 2D/3D modelling, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office. Experience with Dialux and other lighting design software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of lighting design principles and engineering metal parts.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques.
- Familiarity with lighting standards and testing (BS-EN 60598, UL, CE).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Salary & Benefits:
- Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.30pm, Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm
- Competitive Salary likely between £40,000-£45,000 (Negotiable for the right level of candidate)
- Company Bonus Scheme
- 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays (1 additional day holiday for every two years' service up to an additional 5 days)
