The role

The Quant Team is focused on developing quantitative sport models – taking models from prototype to production. The Quant Team is split into two areas – Quant Research and Quant Engineering – and is an important component in the future evolution of our Sportsbook Platform. We are looking to recruit a talented Senior Quantitative Engineering Manager to drive forward our engineering efforts.

What you will do

  • Own, lead and take accountability for multiple engineering-driven workstreams focussed on delivering Quant-powered products to meet business requirements and under agreed timescales and constraints
  • Work closely with business owners and POs on product requirements and strategic roadmaps
  • Set product-driven goals and quarterly milestones and work with Managers and ETLs to plan, sequence and oversee engineering-led work on a quarterly basis
  • Drive engineering alignment and sequencing of work within cross-team squads on areas of overlap cutting across Quant and Pricing Engineering
  • Take lead in resolving Quant Engineering blockers, ensuring issues are raised, surfaced and escalated constructively and risks are mitigated swiftly
  • Liaise with Heads and Managers to streamline the development of high-quality and accessible data assets to support the work of the Quant Team and wider business
  • Refine and optimise Quant Engineering ways of working and take the lead in strategic/enabling initiatives, including design and implementation of scalable frameworks and tooling
  • Support the evolution of Quant Engineering and take responsibility for ensuring any future expansion of the team is implemented smoothly
  • Manage, support and get the best out of Manager and Senior/Staff reports and support up-skilling and professional development on Quant Engineering side.
  • Take lead role in Quant Engineering recruitment and Quant Engineering org planning, including skills gaps and succession planning
  • Lead initiatives to reinforce Quant Team culture
  • Synch, learn from and align with Senior Engineering Managers from other domains and build out effective networks across the business
  • Actively promote Quant Engineering work internally and externally, representing the team credibly as and when required
  • Hands-off in terms of coding although technical background is very much expected
  • Set and uphold high standards through your work and behaviours
  • Ensure that you, and your team, adhere to the Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) obligations within your direct responsibility and control.
  • Ensure any non-compliance incidents within your team are raised through the appropriate channels (Compliance Incidents Process) and that your team are informed of any reporting processes relevant to them.
  • Challenge processes, policies and projects that will negatively impact compliance within the Group.
  • Ensure your team\’s completion of all mandatory compliance trainings within the set deadline.
  • Reach out to the Compliance Teams if unsure of any of your compliance obligations or the requirements are unclear.

Expected Attributes

  • Extensive managerial experience, line managing and project managing Quants, Data Scientists or Engineers combined with coaching/mentoring experience.
  • Extensive commercial experience with a track record of delivering data-driven products from prototype to production.
  • Experience leading the development and implementation of solutions and products focussed on modelling of sporting data and/or delivery of pricing.
  • Able to interact in a constructive and positive manner with key stakeholders driving change and resolving blockers to ensure successful delivery of products and recommendations to support decision making.
  • Experience planning out roadmaps with demonstrable success hitting milestones and goals.
  • Demonstrable success building relationships with a range of stakeholders and delivering on their needs.
  • Knowledge and experience in cloud computing, ideally AWS.
  • Able to develop vision and strategy and support Heads.
  • An outstanding communicator, both written and verbal, able to explain complex topics to non-specialists.
  • Able to move up and down the levels comfortably when liaising with day-to-day stakeholders – comfortable getting into the detail whilst also being able to convey the fundamentals intuitively.
  • Able to collaborate with other teams in our delivery model, and able to proactively drive complex cross-team deliveries to successful resolutions.

Desirable Attributes

  • Masters degree or PhD in STEM subject.
  • Experience line managing managers.
  • Intermediate to advanced programming skills in Python, Java and SQL.
  • Experience with a range of data technologies, including Couchbase and Apache Kafka or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience planning out and overseeing strategic initiatives.
