The Opportunity

As the Head of Legal, you will be responsible for leading a team of attorneys and contract administrators in support of the Sales Team. This position negotiates key contracts with customers and suppliers; develops procedures and processes to support appropriate controls and management of contract risk; develops standard and non-standard contract language; assists with litigation and works with outside counsel as needed; and creates and updates templates. In addition, the Head of Legal assists other teams (e.g., operations, client services, accounting/finance, and product management) with projects and inquiries related to contracts and compliance with applicable laws. The position provides a high level of autonomy, so a flexible attitude and brilliant organizational skills are essential. An ability to manage, coach, and lead teams capable of delivering outstanding legal advice in a timely manner is critical to success in this role. The role will be a key member of a diverse and dynamic team with opportunities to make a significant impact in the role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a group of attorneys and paralegal in processing contracts and meeting the Service Level Agreements for internal and external customers.
  • Directly lead negotiations as required for key customers and deals.
  • Provide coaching and development to a direct report team to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend alternative contracting strategies with respect to customer requests for modifications to the company’s standard contract language including contract modification and preparation of contract amendments.
  • Review, negotiate, and modify fully customized forms of contracts presented by potential customers, all in accordance with company policies and procedures in effect at the time.
  • Responsible for contract administration including setup of agreements in in-house developed contract management system and use of automated workflows to review and manage termination requests.
  • Provide support for litigation claims against the company and work with outside counsel as needed.
  • Such other and further responsibilities as may be designated by manager from time to time.

Functional and Technical Skills

  • Proven work experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Experienced team leader with record of standout successes.
  • Basic knowledge of intellectual property law, SaaS agreements, computer law, and privacy law.
  • Must have initiative, flexibility, ability to multi-task and re-prioritise work as necessary, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com helpful.
