About the Role

You will contribute to preserving Swiss Re's reputation and financial strength by providing confidence to our Board(s) and Senior Management in relation to the models used for risk quantification and capital calculations. Leveraging your actuarial and modelling expertise, you will ensure that the stakeholders are aware and understand the risks we face. You will work closely with risk modelling and actuarial teams to enhance the quality of the risk modelling methodologies.

Your key responsibilities will be the following:

  • Providing independent reviews, challenge and oversight of methods used in risk and capital quantifications, with a primary focus on Life & Health business.
  • Conducting model validations using advanced statistical techniques and informed judgement, in particular identifying limitations and uncertainties and assessing their significance.
  • Preparing reports for senior management and regulators, providing insights into models soundness and appropriateness.
  • Monitoring relevant regulatory changes to ensure continued compliance with requirements.
  • Proactively adopting technology and leveraging external insights on advancements in actuarial and modelling methods and best practices.

About the Team

The team's remit is global and spans both Life & Health and Property & Casualty business, providing support to the Group Chief Actuary and Group CRO. Our team is also small and geographically dispersed, providing the opportunity to work in a variety of areas.

About You

You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good spoken and written English. You have a strong ability to show impartial and fair judgment, ensuring that challenges are raised based on objectively sound reasoning and proportionality. You’re naturally curious and enjoy breaking down complex problems into clear, simple concepts and able to explain them to various audiences. You’re not afraid to step outside your comfort zone, eager to take on new challenges and build your expertise. With strong analytical skills, you can manage large, complex data sets while keeping an eye on the bigger picture. You approach validation suggestions with confidence and patience, effectively influencing stakeholders while maintaining a collaborative and constructive approach.

Essentials

  • Qualified actuary with at least 8 years of professional experience, specialising in Life and Health business; experience in model validation, quantitative risk management and/or development or oversight of risk & capital methodologies will be strongly preferred.
  • University degree in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, statistics, quantitative finance).
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (e.g. MATLAB, R, Python, SAS).
