The Biomedical Science team at Pulse is recruiting for a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist in virology to work in a busy NHS Hospital in Yorkshire. We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who can make a real difference in supporting the laboratory’s Microbiology service. This is a temporary position where you will work core hours with a very competitive rate of £28.00 – £30.00 P/H. You must be available to start as soon as possible.
What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role?
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide expert virology services to the Trust by analysing, authorising, and interpreting results, and participating in clinical activities such as handover and multidisciplinary team meetings. Offer clinicians and external users scientific and clinical advice on viral infections, ensuring high standards of care. Authorise complex test results and clinical reports, handle on-call duties for urgent virology issues and support infection prevention and control initiatives. Collaborate with Consultant Virologists and Microbiologists across sites, develop specialist virology provision, and participate in out-of-hours on-call rotas. Prepare and present clinical cases at meetings.
Policy and Service Development:
Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines, lead service improvement initiatives, and integrate virology services with overall healthcare objectives. Drive practice changes based on audits and service reviews, ensure compliance with data protection laws and apply information systems effectively.
Leadership and Management:
Provide strategic direction and clinical leadership, manage a multidisciplinary team, and oversee staff training and development. Ensure consistent service delivery across sites, handle conflict resolution, and manage resources efficiently. Deputise for the clinical lead as needed and ensure rational use of laboratory resources.
Research and Development:
Engage in professional education, maintain CPD, and participate in mandatory training. Evaluate and integrate innovative practices and technologies, lead research projects, and ensure compliance with research standards. Collaborate with academic and industry partners, participate in audits, and lead quality improvement projects.
