The Mortgage Underwriter Role

As a mortgage underwriter specialising in Buy to Let and Bridging Finance, you will play a critical role in assessing and evaluating mortgage applications to determine creditworthiness and adherence to lending criteria. You will analyse borrower information, financial documents, and property data to make informed decisions regarding loan approvals and risk assessments.

This role is also open to experienced mortgage brokers in and around Basingstoke who are looking to transition into underwriting. If you have buy-to-let or bridging experience in property finance, this will be considered as sufficient exposure to move into an underwriting role.

Mortgage Underwriter Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and analyse mortgage applications ensuring loans align with lending criteria.
  • Conduct detailed risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with lending policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify and validate borrower documentation.
  • Work closely with mortgage brokers, borrowers, appraisers, and legal professionals to resolve queries.
  • Make informed underwriting decisions, balancing risk factors, borrower qualifications, and property value.
  • Identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies to protect the lender’s interests.

The Mortgage Underwriter Package:

  • Basic salary up to £43k.
  • Annual individual and company performance bonus.
  • 25 days holiday per year + bank holidays.
  • Flexible working arrangements can be discussed based on requirements.

Mortgage Underwriter Desired Skills & Experience:

  • A background in mortgage underwriting, or experience as a mortgage broker in Buy to Let or Bridging Finance.
