Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Are you the right applicant for this opportunity Find out by reading through the role overview below. Location: Newham (E16) Contract Type: Full Time Salary: £85 – £100 Daily Start Date: ASAP Role Overview: As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and other staff members to support children with special educational needs, particularly those with Autism. You will play a key role in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, promoting inclusion, and helping children build social, emotional, and academic skills. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with Autism, assisting with their individual learning plans. Use strategies to support communication, social skills, and emotional regulation. Assist in the delivery of tailored interventions to meet the needs of children with Autism. Support the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour and promoting a positive, inclusive atmosphere. Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents. Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to ensure the childs needs are being met. Essential Criteria: Previous experience working with children with Autism, particularly in a primary school setting. A good understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and strategies to support learning and behaviour. Experience in supporting children with a range of educational and emotional needs. A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, parents, and colleagues. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience. Desirable Criteria: Training in specific Autism support strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, etc.). Experience of supporting children with other SEN (e.g., ADHD, learning difficulties).
