Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner Social Worker to join our Children in Need Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in improving outcomes for children, young people, and families across the city.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will provide expert guidance and support to social workers while managing a complex caseload. You will champion best practices, mentor less experienced colleagues, and ensure high-quality interventions that make a real difference in children’s lives.
Responsibilities- Undertake complex casework, including child protection, safeguarding, and legal proceedings.
- Provide mentorship and professional guidance to social workers, ensuring high standards of practice.
- Share a thorough knowledge of legislation, national standards, and best practices.
- Work in partnership with families, professionals, and external agencies to deliver effective support.
- Contribute to quality assurance, coaching, and performance management within the team.
- Represent the department at meetings, court proceedings, and multi-agency forums.
- Support the Team Manager in ensuring a high-quality, needs-led service.
- Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and registration with Social Work England.
- Experience: Significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding, child protection, and working with families in need.
- Skills: Strong assessment, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge: Sound understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Other Requirements: Commitment to professional development and mentoring junior colleagues.
