This role has arisen due to internal promotion of the current postholder, reflecting our values of growing expertise to better serve our communities now and in future. As well as outpatient work, there are opportunities for occasional work into inpatient settings, as well as to develop models for brief intervention within neurology pathways at RFL.
This post provides neuropsychological assessment and brief interventions with people with congenital/developmental, acquired, progressive and degenerative conditions, often assisting with differential diagnosis or treatment planning. There are opportunities to design/deliver groups drawing on a range of therapeutic models to support adjustment and coping following neurological injury or diagnosis. You will support delivery of new service pathways within priority areas in neurology (e.g., headache, epilepsy), as well as delivering teaching and training sessions, and supporting us to drive forward clinical research in the department.
You will be joining a growing neuropsychology team at the Royal Free London NHS Hospitals Trust. Our ethos is for all team members to grow as clinicians and as compassionate leaders, and to be supported to maintain their wellbeing in both life and work. We hold regular journal clubs and complex case discussions, and meet with the wider Psychological Therapies, Neuropsychology & Counselling (PTNC) network across the Royal Free. Clinical supervision is provided by experienced, senior Clinical Psychologists/Clinical Neuropsychologists, with funding and supervision available towards entry onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN). We have close links with the North Thames DClinPsy training courses, and encourage all colleagues to offer placements, mentorship and teaching as part of their CPD portfolio.

As a clinician you will be embedded within the neuropsychology department and simultaneously also belong to a group of over 40 PTNC colleagues who work within a variety of medical specialties across the Trust (including Cancer & Palliative Care, Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes, HIV, ICU, Immunology and Rare Disease, Nephrology and Liver Transplantation, Neurology, Pain, Plastic Surgery, Respiratory, and Women’s Health). Priorities for the PTNC leads are ensuring each clinician has the support necessary for their role, including access to varied specialist supervision, line management and professional development. They actively work to create a PTNC community that encourages dialogue, learning from each other and mutual support, and showcasing good practice, innovation, and research. Although this post is advertised full-time, flexible working patterns are available and part-time hours will be considered for those with experience in these settings.We welcome informal conversations and visits from any interested applicant.
