Our clients, based close to Portsmouth, have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Design Engineer to join their growing team.
The Junior Design Engineer will work alongside their experienced engineers and learn about plastic injection and moulds, and high-speed stamping tools. The Junior Design Engineer will support the tooling team, update and modify designs.
The role will entail supporting the tooling team by modifying and updating a range of CAD files and technical drawings. If needed, you will design new items from scratch to make the company production more efficient. You will need to follow established procedures and liaise with other teams to get components manufactured and tested. The role is office based due to the high level of interaction with production teams required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use 3D CAD to modify and maintain the businesses tool designs within the drawing change procedures
- Creating 2D technical drawings with material and finish selection to company and BS8888 standards
- Create and maintain BOM’s of all work produced and loading this into the companies ERP system
- Liaise effectively with production staff to identify and implement design changes to improve quality or efficiency
- Ensure Company and relevant professional standards are maintained and adhered to
- Contribute to regular design review meetings
- To undertake other duties within your capabilities as your supervisor may assign to you from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Level 3 or higher in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- At least 1 year experience with 3D CAD in any software package
- At least 1 year experience creating technical engineering drawings
- Good knowledge of common manufacturing methods
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite
Working hours:
8.00 – 16.30 Monday to Thursday and 8.00 – 15.30 on Friday – office based
