The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the UK's independent regulator of advertising. Our purpose is to make advertisements responsible and our ambition is to make every UK ad a responsible ad. In late 2023, we finalised our new five-year strategy, which set out our strategic decisions in areas including operational transformation, the Planet, and collective ad regulation. We also committed to putting people, especially the vulnerable, first, and to making sure we have the best people working with us.

We think the ASA is a great place to work! In our last employee survey, a whopping 90% of our staff said they believe their work is important and valued by the ASA, and 82% said they were proud to tell people that they work for the ASA. However, we know we can always do better and that high levels of employee wellbeing, belonging and engagement have never been more important to our staff and therefore our business.

We are now looking for a capable and experienced individual to join us as our HR Advisor to contribute to the delivery of a customer-focused HR service that meets the needs of the ASA. The successful candidate will embed good people practices, ensure effective communications of HR information, build the capability of our line managers, support organisational change and foster a supportive and inclusive working environment.

More about the role:

  • The successful candidate will provide consistent and pragmatic HR advice and guidance to assist staff and managers, ensuring that HR policies and procedures are applied effectively and in line with legislative changes.
  • Managing the end-to-end recruitment process will be a key part of your role, ensuring that ASA recruitment practices remain in line with organisational needs, whilst coaching managers on the interview and selection process to help us hire the best candidates.
  • You will provide advice and guidance to managers on work experience, new starter and leaver processes and ensure understanding of HR Policies, processes and benefits by providing up to date and accessible information.
  • You will manage employee relations issues, including guidance and coaching for managers on absence management, capability, conduct and employment law.
  • You will provide performance management support to management and staff, including guidance on objective-setting, appraisal documentation and ASA behaviours.
  • You will also be responsible for our monthly payroll (with our outsourced provider) to ensure that staff are paid on time and accurately.

About you:

We are looking for someone who is experienced in providing practical HR advice and guidance to staff and management, who is CIPD qualified to graduate level or has the equivalent level of work experience. Payroll experience is essential, and experience of IRIS Cascade is desirable. You will have knowledge of current employment law and practical experience in ensuring knowledge is kept up to date, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be efficient and organised with a proactive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude and a strong customer-focused approach.

We think the ASA is a great place to work, with a fantastic office in Shoreditch, London. We have a culture that’s open, friendly and collaborative, with a real focus on making the right decisions in the right way and learning while we’re doing it. We welcome applications from all sections of society, and we’re committed to being a diverse and inclusive organisation, both so we can represent everyone in the UK and so our own colleagues feel at home at work.

We operate a hybrid working model and office attendance is required 40% of your contracted hours.

How to apply: If you are interested in applying for this role, please review the job description below and complete the online questions outlining how you meet the requirements of the role and how you can contribute to the success of the HR Team. Please ensure that you provide all the information required on the online form as we do not accept CV's or attachments and cannot edit applications.
