Simply Education is working on behalf of a well-respected secondary school in Horwich, Bolton, to recruit a Learning Support Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated individual to support students with additional learning needs in a dynamic and inclusive school environment.

As part of this role, you will also assist in guiding students through their education pathways, ensuring they have the knowledge and support needed to make informed decisions about their future options, including further education, apprenticeships, and vocational qualifications.

The Learning Support Assistant will work closely with students who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they are fully included in the classroom and able to access the curriculum. You will support students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, and alongside the wider teaching team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people and contribute to their educational success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with a range of learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in the delivery of lessons, ensuring learning resources are adapted to suit individual student needs.
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies for students with SEND.
  • Encourage students to develop social and emotional skills, ensuring their well-being is supported.
  • Track and monitor students' progress and share feedback with teaching staff and parents as needed.
  • Help guide students on education and career pathways, providing advice on available routes, including:
  • Apprenticeships: Real jobs where students can earn a wage while learning.
  • T Levels: Vocational qualifications designed to offer the knowledge and skills needed for work or further study.
  • Vocational Technical Qualifications (VTQs): Including BTECs and Cambridge Technicals, ideal for students pursuing practical career skills.
  • Supported Internships: Providing work-based study programmes to help students with EHCPs transition into the workplace.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to meet the needs of students.
  • Person Specification

    • Have experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting.
    • Have a good understanding of SEND and strategies to support students with additional learning needs.
    • Be patient, empathetic, and able to build positive relationships with students.
    • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) or be willing to work towards one.
    • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
