OCCL are looking to recruit a Costs Lawyer or experienced costs professional with at least 5 years’ commercial costs experience (either in-house or for an external costs provider). It is also desirable, but not a requirement, for the individual to have experience of dealing with costs issues in shipping disputes and arbitration proceedings.
OCCL acts for top tier clients, specialising in high value and complex commercial and shipping litigation in both court proceedings and arbitration. Our work covers multiple jurisdictions, including the UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Channel Islands in addition to work for our London City and UK-wide clients.
The OCCL team is ranked in Chambers and Partners for Costs Lawyers and our director, Nick Overton, is ranked individually. We are a forward thinking, dynamic costs consultancy who have acted on some of the most significant and notable recent costs matters.
The day-to-day responsibilities will include work on the full spectrum of costs matters, including, but not limited to:
- Preparing costs schedules/breakdowns and statements of costs
- Preparing detailed bills of costs
- Preparing costs budgets/budget discussion reports
- Preparing client estimates
- Preparation and advising on schedules in support of applications for security for costs and requests for payments on account
- Preparation of points of dispute/replies
- Advocacy
Good numeracy, excel, writing and communication skills are essential as are an attention to detail and excellent analytical skills. This role will include regular client contact and an aspiration for business development will be supported by the other senior members of the team.
Ideally the candidate will be a qualified Costs Lawyer however, experienced, non-qualified costs professionals who have experience in acting on commercial costs matters will also be considered. A desire to become qualified as a Costs Lawyer will, in that event, be supported by the firm.
The candidate will be expected to attend the City of London offices for at least 3 days per week.
