The Center for Observational Research (CfOR) consolidates Epidemiology, Pharmacovigilance and Health Economics Observational Research into one organization. CfOR designs, conducts, analyses, interprets and publishes observational research that informs the safety, efficacy, effectiveness, and economic value of Amgen products. Observational Research (OR) is an increasingly important component in drug development and commercialisation as it makes it possible to explore large cohorts of diversified patients in a real-world setting, over a long time period. This team contributes evidence regarding the frequency and distribution, as well as the clinical burden of disease, the natural history or clinical course of disease, cost and utilization patterns, and the safety and effectiveness of interventions.

Clinical Trial Operations Analyst – Cambridge, UK
Amgen currently has a vacancy in their Cambridge office for one placement student in the Global Pricing and Payments department (GCP&P) which is responsible for budget design, oversight and payments for clinical trials. The department ensures payments of around £150 million a year, prioritising speed and accuracy of payments. The team have an opportunity to build analysis reports on clinical trial budget data to aid budget planning decisions.
A student working in GCP&P will gain experience in:

Statistician – Data Science – Cambridge / Uxbridge, UK
The Data Science team works with different study teams throughout the study design and study conduct phase. They use statistical and machine learning techniques to help optimise study designs and analyse study operational data to increase efficiency of the study. The multi-disciplinary team is made up of Data and Software Engineers and Data Scientists, who work closely together, exploiting the variety of data available both within the company and through industry data sharing initiatives.
A Mathematician/Statistician working in Data Science will gain experience in:

Advanced mathematical/statistical models for designing and forecasting clinical trials

Deeper knowledge of programming languages (primary R and potentially Python) and writing software to apply the developed models to the analysis of real trials

Monte Carlo techniques for simulating various characteristics of clinical trials

Working with data scientists to learn about various modern directions in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, etc. and share knowledge
Working arrangements:
We have 2 offices, one in Cambridge and one in Uxbridge, with the location of the position being dependent on the department that you are applying for. Amgen offers a hybrid working model whereby there is the opportunity to work from home and/or work from the office. Please note that your manager may also be either on-site or working remotely. We encourage students to work from the office where possible to build connections with colleagues both within their department and from other departments.

Excellent exam and course work grades from the first year of their degree (or higher qualification) in programming, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline
