Artigarvan Lakeland Dairies Co-operative Society Limited (The Group) is the second largest dairy processor on the island of Ireland. The business is complex and ambitious with a milk supply pool of 2 billion litres of milk, drawn from over 3,200 family farms across 16 counties. With the most modern dairy manufacturing facilities in 8 locations on a cross-border basis, the Group supplies to a broad customer base including some of the world's foremost blue chip companies across the dairy food ingredients, foodservice and consumer food channels on a domestic Ireland, UK, European and global basis. The Group's Agribusiness Division (Lakeland Agri) operates a state-of-the-art Animal Feed Manufacturing Facility and is a leading and innovative provider of the highest quality feeds and agricultural inputs to dairy, beef and sheep farmers across the north and south of Ireland.

The Role
Our Environmental Manager will oversee and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability practices within the dairy powder plant at Artigarvan. This key position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to minimize our environmental impact, manage waste, and ensure adherence to local, national, and international environmental standards. This role involves working collaboratively across various departments to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and policies, including air quality, wastewater discharge, solid waste management, and energy usage.
- Conduct regular environmental audits and assessments to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement programs to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and water usage.
- Promote sustainable practices, including waste reduction, recycling, and resource optimization.
- Oversee the management of by-products and waste streams, including packaging, biological waste, and chemical by-products.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Develop and update environmental policies, procedures, and contingency plans.
- Conduct training and awareness programs for plant employees on environmental standards and best practices.
- Prepare reports and present findings to senior management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with local authorities, community organizations, and regulatory agencies on environmental matters.
The Person
Possessing a 3rd level qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, the successful applicant will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management (preferably food manufacturing or dairy processing facility) and have in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and standards (e.g., EPA, ISO 14001, wastewater discharge regulations). Our new Environmental Manager will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent project management and communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental monitoring tools. Familiarity with dairy industry operations, a certification in Environmental Management and/or experience with environmental audits and sustainability reporting frameworks would be advantageous.
