Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced SCL Site Engineer to join our team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the setting out and management of SCL works, while overseeing subcontractor activities, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe working environment. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in an innovative project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting Out on Site: Perform setting out and final checks using Total Station and Amber system for 2nd lining and SCL excavation work. Control the excavation profile and shotcrete spray profile to ensure project requirements are met.
- Project Planning & Coordination: Coordinate with subcontractors, providing them with the necessary information and materials to execute their work on schedule. Act as a liaison between subcontractors, ensuring smooth communication and addressing any potential conflicts or issues.
- Supervision & Management: Supervise the day-to-day activities of subcontractors and direct labour, ensuring compliance with project schedules, safety regulations, and quality standards. Monitor and report on the progress of subcontractor work, promptly addressing delays or issues.
- Quality Control & Assurance: Inspect the quality of work performed by subcontractors and ensure materials meet required standards. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with contract specifications. Coordinate testing and inspection with the Quality Team, Client, and Designer according to the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). Conduct shotcrete-related tests to support the excavation cycle. Install maturity sensors for the 2nd lining as part of quality monitoring efforts.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Management: Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, company procedures, and legal requirements in all subcontractor activities. Conduct safety audits and risk assessments on-site, ensuring corrective actions are taken where necessary. Deliver safety briefings to the team in accordance with approved RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statements), TBS (Task-based Safety), etc. Provide induction training for new starters or visitors to the site, ensuring they are familiar with safety protocols and site-specific requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of daily progress, including materials used, hours worked, and any issues encountered. Report any issues, delays, or concerns regarding SCL work to higher management. Ensure all safety-related documents, including updated RAMS, TBS, and relevant permits, are in place and properly managed.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience in SCL site engineering, particularly in excavation, shotcrete, and second lining works.
- Strong knowledge of setting out techniques, Total Station, and Amber systems.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills to liaise with subcontractors and management.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality control and assurance.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
- Previous experience with testing and inspection processes, including shotcrete-related tests, is a plus.
- Proficient in creating and maintaining site documentation and progress reports.
